By car – roads and highways in Croatia

Arrival in Istria by car For your pleasant journey through Istria, you have at your disposition the Istrian motorway (at some parts semi-motorway), known under name Istrian Y which leads you to the southest parts of the peninsula and also to the places situated in central Istria.

If you are arriving in Istria from the western direction, Slovenia, you will cross the border on one of the three road border crossings; Plovanija-Sečovlje, Kaštel-Dragonja or Požane-Sočerga.

Arriving to ‘Istrian Y’ from the eastern direction, using the Croatian highways from Zagreb or Split to Rijeka, after crossing the Učka tunnel, you will quickly reach your final destination.

With the recent release of the new section Umag-Kanfanar to the full profile motorway is introduced a closed toll collection system at the whole Istrian Y and are charged only sections which are in the full profile motorway and the passage through the tunnel Učka.

The motorway also connects Pula and Slovenian border at the section long about 80 kilometers and also has been released to traffic the eight miles long connecting road from Stancija Peličeti to Medulin road.

Gas station
Most gas stations are open from 7 am until 8 pm, some even 24 hours a day. A lead-free petrol, marked with green indication is sold in all of the gas stations.
