National Park Risnjak

The Risnjak was proclaimed a national park in 1953. The highest peak is Veliki Risnjak with its 1528m. The national park Risnjak covers 3198 hectares of land.

The National Park Risnjak is the meeting place of the cold Alpine climate and the mild climate of Mediterranean. The karst terrain of Risnjak is covered by forests and meadows. Most of the park is considered a nature reserve. The flora is made ​​up of 30 groups of different plants including beech, pine and fir. The fauna, however, is characterized on the presence of the brown bear, chamois, deer, eagle and lynx. The ideal sports to be practiced on Risnjak are mountaineering, trekking, mountain biking, bird watching, fishing and caving.
