The natural park of Biokovo occupies an area of 19 550 hectares and overlooks the entire Makarska Riviera. The massif of Biokovo is full of caves, ditches, abysses and forests. The natural park of Biokovo is located 6 km from Makarska in the direction of Vrgorac.
On the Biokovo even in the summer months there are bands of snow that do not disappear thanks to the deep pits that lurk it. The highest pick of Biokovo is the pick of St. George with its 1762m . Here is also the chapel of St. George from which extends a beautiful view over the Makarska Riviera. The flora of the Biokovo consists of more than 40 endemic plants and fauna are rich with the gray eagle , chamois and mouflon . Although, at first glance , the mountain makes an impression that is ” naked ” but the situation is completely different. On the Biokovo are more than 1,500 different plants with more than 40 endemic species from which the best known are Edraianhtus pumilio , Centaurea cuspidata. As concerns animals , are particularly attractive chamois and mouflon and the gray eagle.
